In April 2016, with the approval of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the China Conservation and Research Center for Giant Panda (Guangdong Site) was established within Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou. Since 1997, a total of 34 giant pandas have been conserved and bred at the center, resulting in the successful birth of 10 cubs. With the invaluable support and guidance from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, we have overcome the technical challenges of breeding giant pandas in the low-altitude, high-humidity, and high-temperature regions of South China.
From 2013 to 2016, Chimelong achieved a remarkable accomplishment of breeding four consecutive litters, leading to the birth of seven cubs. In 2014, we achieved a groundbreaking milestone by successfully breeding and raising the world's first surviving giant panda triplets through artificial means, creating an extraordinary achievement in giant panda conservation efforts. These research and practical achievements have provided essential technical foundations for the relocation and preservation of this species in subtropical regions.
