The National Ex-situ Conservation Base of World Endangered Wild Plants and Animals in Qingyuan was established in August 2015 with the approval of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. It comprises four main components: two exhibition areas for breeding and conserving rare animals and plants, the research and conservation center, and the supporting systems. It aims to enrich the national ecological resources and establish world-class large-scale herbivore breeding facilities.

Through the successful implementation of conservation techniques, the genetic resource base has achieved significant milestones in safeguarding large and rare herbivorous species, including African elephants, giraffes, Indian rhinoceros, black rhinoceros, white rhinoceros, zebras, northern bushbucks, blue wildebeests, common elands, greater kudus, waterbucks, and takins. These accomplishments serve as a scientific basis and technological guarantee for the sustainable development of China's wildlife resources.
