In January 2010, with the approval of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the first national-level wildlife conservation center in the South China region was located in Hengqin, Zhuhai. Covering an initial area of approximately 60,000 square meters, it serves as a multifunctional facility that integrates ex-situ conservation, research, germplasm preservation, science education, and wildlife viewing. Over the years, the center has achieved remarkable success in conserving more than 230 species, with a total population exceeding 4,000 individuals of rare and endangered wildlife.
